Sup dudes.
So I was thinking of hosting a minigame (since I don't want to have to deal with participation points and achievements) that would have the following premise:
Newbie players sign up as newbies. A newbie can be anyone who has played less than a certain amount of games, or just someone who's not confident in their mafia skills and would like a mentor to help them out.
Veteran players sign up to be either a solo player, or a mentor. Or both, and I'll pick which role they are based on numbers.
When the game starts, newbie players will be paired up with mentors. Only the newbie will be able to post in thread and send actions, but they'll be in a PM alliance with the mentor who can give them advice on how to act and what to post in thread. Veteran solo players will just play normally, and are mostly there to pad the player list. Depending on numbers, mafia newbies might have just one mentor between the lot of them since they're all in an alliance anyway.
1. Anonymity
One option I was considering was using the mask accounts from Luxaria's masquerade game to have all players be anonymous. There would be no mask switching; everyone would just get their account and password and that would just be their account for the whole game. I'd like to downplay the possible roleplay aspect, since the point would be to learn to play mafia, not to cause confusion.
Why have masks at all, then? Well, mostly because there will be veteran players playing as solo players, and I'd like them to not be an immediate target just based off their usernames. Additionally, I think it'd help break down the distinction between "newbie with mentor" and "veteran solo player" and help put everyone on the same level, at least in the beginning.
Obviously the biggest flaw here is that if we're going to have newbies in this game who are entirely new to this forum, the mask thing might REALLY confuse them.
2. Day Start
To give everyone a chance to play, I'm thinking of having it start on a day phase, or else having N0 be a no NK night. Not sure if this is a good idea or not.
3. Role Powers
I was just gonna do a bare bones open role game with like, a doctor, and maybe a detective or stunner depending on player counts. But I'm open to ideas here too.
4. Interest
Would you actually be interested in playing a game like this?
Do you have any friends who aren't currently on the forum, that you think you could drag into a game like this?
Throw words at me. I would like to hear from you.
