ezzelin wrote:I've stated the same earlier though differently phrased;
serving to the player they want benched definitely gives them the highest chances of said player being benched.
e.g.: let's say they're trying to bench player N.
serving to player N: 1/3 (odds of passing to maf) + 7/12*1/12*10/12 (odds of passing safely, second person passing back to them, and them not being spiker) = 37%
serving to a different player, odds of player N being benched as second player: 1/12*4/12 = 3%
serving to a different player, odds of player N being benched as third player: 7/12*1/12*10/12 = 4%
unless math is very much not the mafia's thing, the intended target is always the first player. and if it's not, we have no way of finding out the intended target anyway, given how low the odds of them actually being benched in a roundabout way are. case closed.
and this is why I always post my processes. my sleepy head derped out and thought 7+4 was 12..., thank you for spotting that!Luxaria wrote:ezzelin wrote:If I could ask one question (this is embarrassing...), where are you getting the 7/12 from in your equation?
corrected now.ezzelin wrote:

serving to player N: 1/3 (odds of passing to maf) + 8/12*1/12*7/9 (odds of passing safely, second person passing back to them, and them not being spiker) = 38%
serving to a different player, odds of player N being benched as second player: 1/12*4/12 = 3%
serving to a different player, odds of player N being benched as third player: 8/12*1/12*7/9 = 4%

Drandahl can feel drool pool in his mouth as he notices the tasty and foreign look of guaraná antarctica. He goes to buy a bottle from the vending machine, but looses control of his arm when selecting the beverage. Drandahl watches in horror as the button for Orange Fanta is pressed. Damn. He hates Fanta, but turns his head in some direction and starts smiling at nothing.high seraph wrote:i dont know what 90% of drandahl's drinks are and i feel kinda left out??? why can't you have some guaraná antarctica for a change dran, like, fo real bro
high seraph wrote:Why would anyone... want to pass the ball to the mafia...? If a player passes to the mafia, they're instantly benched. If they are benched, they will never be able to tell us what Jersey # they passed the ball to. Basically we won't ever learn Mafia Jersey #s?dranball wrote:Later in the game if we gain a more complete picture of our jersey numbers, I wonder if we can intentionally pass to who we suspect to be mafia.

I'm guessing you wanted to try to target mafia jerseys as a way to investigate, and I thought about that too, but like, let's say you know a maf jersey number and you pass to it and you die. While that person might be mafia, it could also just be that you were third pass and not spiker, so that's not conclusive. Let's say you survive. No guarantee that you got the ball in the first place. Still not conclusive.

But the exact numbers don't matter here the overall math still works out in that it's in town's favor to pass to "safe" numbers.
