The strains of the night had left their toll upon the poor blue puella magi. She was in a fit of disarray, her hair disheveled and haggard without its usual bounce, and somehow more dull, as if sapped of its vibrancy. Her eyelids drooped, bags leaving dark rings around her eyes where the skin was irritated and sore. Sayaka stood well enough, but with the air and demeanor of one that had toiled much, and she had not cared nor wanted to look at the damage done unto her soul gem, or gaze upon the roiling clouds like to form. But in spite of all of this, beneath her shadowed eyes, the corners of her mouth were tugged up in the faint suggestion of a smile.
Sayaka looked at Kyouko, and a small fire poked at the emptiness brewing deep within, feeding the void with fanning flames. Kyouko looked back at her, and that small gesture, alone, gave her the strength to carry on. It had been a long fight already, but it would only get worse.
She then gazed upon Soren, and she was happy.
“I do not know if you had any protection of your own,” she said. “And if you did, I feel you would be quick to call me out on my claim of saving you. By admission, Luke would not have been able to help, so it was either me or you. Maybe you do have a defense and you will not say either which way, whether you are seeker or guardian. But whatever the case, I know what I did, and I am happy death was thwarted last night.”
Sayaka breathed a sigh of relief, and the stars seemed brighter. She elected to ignore the few that winked out of existence in that moment.
“I would ask one favor of you, Soren,” she said. “I want to know whom you planned to attack last night, and, also...” Sayaka rubbed at her shoulder. “I want to know what you think of me—if you trust me.”
Sayaka turned to Amumu.
“Amumu,” she said, not unkindly, “I know you only wish to protect in your own way—even if that way is kind of gross... But, I know that you did not trust Soren. Why is that, Amumu? Why did you choose to stun him last night?”
And at last, she then looked to Cecil—and it was strange how there was an oddly scientist-sized black hole standing right next to him.
“Cecil, I have two questions for you, if you would be kind enough to answer. They are important, so I am surprised that no one—none at all, in fact—have asked you this prior to this very moment, however...” Sayaka cleared her throat. “Why did you choose to follow Amumu last night? Was it to see if he was up to something now that he'd be less likely to be followed, given that he already had been? And... would Wilbur see anything else of Amumu's actions beyond just stunning Soren?
“In other words, if Amumu had attacked Soren, would you have seen it, too?”
She was quick to turn to Amumu before the waterworks began.
“No—no, please don't cry. I just want him to provide ironclad proof of your alibi again last night. If anything, I am happy you were nearby while I protected Soren. It means you have good intuition!”
((So. Tired. Augh. Okay. I do have speculations I plan to provide later on, and I can also explain why I chose to protect Soren last night, but I may wait until those speculations unless prompted sooner. I had a feeling Kyouko would be the other target, since she would be the only one that the maf—deniers/guardians/hunters could guarantee that I could not defend last night. I'd love to hear from both Luke and Amethyst (I think the latter seems to be busy?), and also, since your defense is now shot, can you explain things from your perspective and end, Kyouko-my-love?
P.S. Sorry my roleplaying has kind of gone down the drain. I'm just trying to fit as much information, speculation, and querying in as I can without taking up a huge amount of space... which I seem to do, anyway, I guess?))
